STATOS Celebrates Its 6th Year of Stronger and Meaningful Sarawak– Singapore Ties

Singapore, 30 June 2025- Soaring to New Heights in Trade, Investment, and Tourism – The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) proudly celebrates its 6th Anniversary this June, marking a remarkable journey of growth, collaboration, and impact since its soft launch on 20 June 2019 by the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. From humble beginnings with just three pioneering staff members, STATOS has grown into a dynamic 10-member team dedicated to championing trade, investment, and tourism for Sarawak in the vibrant Singapore market. Over the past six years, STATOS has become a gateway for Sarawak’s unique offerings—be it business, culture, food, or adventure—to reach new audiences and unlock economic opportunities
“Since the establishment of STATOS, we’ve seen a significant increase in the promotion of Sarawak as a travel destination in Singapore. This is a welcome development, as it offers Singaporeans a fresh and exciting alternative for their holidays,” said Mr Wong Yew Hoong, Director of EU Holidays Pte Ltd. “Many travellers are still unfamiliar with Sarawak, and through collaborations with EU Holidays and STATOS, we’ve observed a growing interest and increasing tourist arrivals. This initiative is clearly opening new doors for both the industry and travellers.” STATOS’s efforts—from social media campaigns and promotional videos to business matchmaking, academic and corporate outreach, and in-depth market research—have helped drive a 29% increase in tourist arrivals from Singapore since its inception. But tourism is only part of STATOS’s broader influence.
“STATOS has opened doors to regional exposure and export opportunities for our women-led social enterprise. It’s been a catalyst in turning our Sarawak-inspired plant-based heritage into global conversations,” said Trudy Tan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Supreme Indah Sdn Bhd (#IndahHouseKuching). “We are proud to be associated with STATOS, to enable an effective platform to showcase our Sarawak’s innovative produces,” added Andrew Nguang, Director of East Asia Palm Products Sdn Bhd
“As a Sarawakian who has lived in Singapore for over 20 years and established my business here, I was truly excited when I first heard about the establishment of STATOS in Singapore back in 2018,” said Eric Kon, Co-Founder of Alpha-B Holdings Pte Ltd. “With the strong support of the Sarawak Government, STATOS has done an incredible job over the past few years in raising awareness about Sarawak. Singaporeans and members of the international community are now discovering and appreciating what Sarawak has to offer. I’m proud to see Sarawak being represented so vibrantly, and even prouder to be part of this journey as a Sarawakian.” STATOS Proud to Have Played an Early Role in Project H2ornbill Long before the signing of the Joint Development Agreement for Project H2ornbill, STATOS had the privilege of playing an early role in laying the groundwork. In 2019, STATOS visited Sumitomo Corporation at their Singapore office and initiated the connection with the relevant Sarawak counterparts. That visit marked the beginning of a collaboration that has since grown into a landmark hydrogen project for Sarawak.
“We are proud to be part of the early chapters of many such initiatives,” said CEO Chew. “As the window to Sarawak, STATOS remains committed to opening doors, building bridges, and supporting meaningful partnerships for the state's trade, investment, and sustainability agenda. We’ve come to understand what truly connects with Singaporeans—and the answer is simple: great food, authentic experiences, and meaningful engagements. Sarawak has all the highgrowth potential, and STATOS is ready to deliver more.” Behind the success of STATOS stands a dedicated Board of Directors, chaired by Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, who continues to guide and push the organisation forward. “STATOS plays a key role in facilitating and promoting Sarawak’s interests by identifying highvalue leads, driving strategic collaborations, and securing actionable opportunities in investment, trade, and tourism. Our objective is to bring back implementable outcomes for the relevant Sarawak agencies to follow through and potentially close the deals,” said Tan Sri Morshidi
Looking ahead, STATOS is preparing for the Sarawak Mega Fair 2025—a landmark event in collaboration with the Premier’s Office and the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED). The fair, to be held in Singapore, aims to further strengthen exports, investment opportunities, and tourism exchanges between the two regions, showcasing Sarawak's best across all sectors. As STATOS marks this significant milestone, the team expresses its gratitude to partners, stakeholders, and the Sarawak Government for their unwavering support. The journey is far from over—and STATOS is ready to soar to even greater heights in the years ahead.
