Singapore a vital gateway for Sarawak’s global ambitions, says Hii

KUCHING (Sept 22): Singapore is regarded as a strategic partner and vital gateway for Sarawak to expand its reach in global trade, finance and innovation. Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee, who is also a director of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos), said the republic’s role goes beyond being just a trading partner. “For Sarawak, Singapore represents more than just a trading partner, because we view Singapore as a hub for global trade, innovation, finance and connectivity.
“It is really a window for Sarawak to the world, a place where ideas, investments and opportunities converge,” he said in his opening remarks at the Statos-Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI) Business Mission to Kuching today. He said the relationship between Sarawak and Singapore is one of enduring friendship and strategic importance, with both sides encouraged to deepen collaboration in commerce, industry and talent development. “The mission, therefore, is not only networking, but it is about deepening the bridge between Singapore and Sarawak, a bridge which we hope to build through trust, mutual opportunity and a shared determination for win-win success,” he said.
He also highlighted Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), anchored on economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability, noting that Singapore’s strengths in logistics, finance and technology complement Sarawak’s resources and land. “Together we should build a partnership that tries to shape success, shape progress, and shape sustainability. That’s why Singapore is very strategic to us,” he added. The mission comprises 15 Singapore enterprises with 22 representatives from sectors including halal food and beverage, logistics, education, healthcare, construction, digital technology and the creative industry.
Over three days, the delegates will tour major Sarawak companies and factories, engage with industry organisations such as the Sarawak Manufacturers Association, SME Association Sarawak, Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority and the Sarawak ICT Association. They will also experience Sarawak’s cultural and culinary heritage through gastronomy showcases and visits to the Borneo Cultural Museum and the historic Main Bazaar. The SMCCI delegation’s visit comes ahead of the Sarawak Mega Fair at Suntec City Atrium Convention Centre, Singapore, from Oct 16 to 19, which will feature business conference alongside cultural, tourism and gastronomy showcases. Also present were Statos Deputy Chief Executive Officer Putrie Rozana Soraya and Head of Mission and Board Member for SMCCI Raja Mohamad. Credit: Borneo Post Online.
