WatchMoviesNot Film Festival 2026

The WatchMoviesNot Film Festival (WMNFF 2026) returns to Sibu for its sixth edition from 15 to 18 October 2026, bringing together filmmakers, industry professionals and film enthusiasts for four days of screenings, workshops, masterclasses and creative exchange.

Organised by the Sibu Film Art Association (MICROWAVE), the festival provides a platform for emerging filmmakers to develop their ideas, connect with industry mentors and showcase creative work.

One of this year’s key highlights is the Short Film Project Pitching, where Malaysian filmmakers can present fiction short film proposals to a panel of local and international film professionals. Selected projects will compete for the Jury Award and Special Award, including a RM5,000 production grant to support the development of a winning film project. Pitching proposals are open until 20 September 2026.

The festival will also feature a four-part Masterclass & Workshop Series on 15 and 16 October, covering Idea Development, Directing, Producing and Acting.

WMNFF 2026 brings together an experienced panel of filmmakers and industry professionals, including Malaysian directors Lau Kek-Huat and Lau Kok Rui, Taiwanese actor Fuji Yang, and Sabah Dusun filmmaker Nadira Ilana.

Film lovers can also look forward to a diverse screening programme featuring titles such as Heart Attack from Thailand, The Waves Will Carry Us from Taiwan and Malaysia, and Mother Bhumi from Malaysia.

The festival will also spotlight local filmmaking talent through Sarawak Shorts – Programmes A & B, featuring six short films by Sarawakian filmmakers.
